Western Reserve Lightning Rod Co. supports the mission of the Bright Side of the Road Foundation, a charitable organization founded by Barry Winovich, son of owner Don Winovich and brother of general manager Brian Winovich.
Barry , along with his family and his friends, founded the Bright Side of the Road Foundation in 2006 soon after Barry’s diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” The foundation’s goal was to assemble a collective of energy and resources for organizing events that raise funds for ALS research.
Their official mission is to:
- Make grants to support activities and projects relating to the causes, prevention, treatment and cure for ALS such as specific research, drug trials and other medical and/or scientific programs identified as relevant.
- Also, we want to support other organizations whose purpose is to raise awareness, educate patients, families, caregivers and the general public about ALS.
To date, Bright Side of the Road Foundation has raised over $2,000,000 for ALS research initiatives nationwide. They have established the Barry Winovich Endowed Chair for ALS Research at the Cleveland Clinic, and they continue to empower families and friends across the country to take a stand against ALS by raising money for research.
Bright Side also teamed with CVS Pharmacy after Barry’s closest friend Treg Charlton (and a close friend of the entire Winovich family) was also diagnosed with ALS. Together, Barry and Treg worked with CVS to raise nearly $4,000,000 for ALS research during their annual charity drive.
We are proud of Barry and Treg as they live with ALS and continue to be an inspiration to patients and their families nationwide. It is our profound pleasure at the Western Reserve Lightning Rod Co. to support their vital mission.
